Week 2 of our March 1968 50th anniversary Blue Note salutes: Lou Donaldson (Midnight Creeper), Chick Corea (Circling In, now bonus tracks on Now He Sings, Now He Sobs), side 2 of Bobby Hutcherson’s rare Patterns, the 2nd session from Herbie Hancock’s Speak Like A Child & an ‘orphan’ trio track (the only one we haven’t played recently) from Horace Silver’s Serenade To A Soul Sister. Along the way Brian Andres, Tony Dagradi, The Astral Project, Kyle Eastwood, Cecile McLorin-Salvant, Jeff Coffin & Johnathan Blake (with Chris Potter & Mark Turner).

Enjoy the show, as Dr. Jazz celebrates his 29th birthday:)!

Never heard him live, but this track hit me in the right spot. Report back if you see him in person. Cheers, DrJ

The Lemon Circus

Sounds like Astral Project might be a great live attraction - are you going to see them Dr?

DrJazz
DrJazz

Indeed, the doctor will be in the house. Thanks for listening & your 'play by play' comments. Best, DrJ

Astral Project was FANTASTIC & standing-room only! WORLD- CLASS music! Lots of stories & photos with the band after the show!

The Lemon Circus

Vocals followed by piano - now I'm lounging it in a classy mens club that women could join if they wished, they just choose not to, they hold their bingo evenings in the same room on Thursdays and men don't interrupt them - it's a mutual thing you see. I notice your piano choices mix very well into one another - and it happens too often for it to be fluke - you know your keys and tempo :)

Not Dr. Jazz for nothing, ya know:)!

The Lemon Circus

Effi was a summer walk along the stream with the birds singing and the sun shining. You could see if the Mars mission could benefit from jazz with the low levels of sunlight to stop the astronaughts from walking around bow legged by getting their daily dose of vitamin D from those melodic chimes. All in the name of science you understand :)

Effi is a real strong line from Stanley Cowell. Spaulding's flute really makes it stand out. Cheers, DrJ

The Lemon Circus

Midnight Creeper was an exceptional start to the show and fused funk and jazz impressively, I had added some other notes on those that followed but Mixcloud likes to play games and it seemed to refresh itself so I'll commit this comment while the fabulous tropical punchbowl Banderas Rojas kettle drums away the first segment :)

Indeed. If I didn't have an overabundance of music to share & I was on every day, I think I'd play Creeper at least once a week. The secret sauce provided by the drummer! Cheers, Drj

The Soul Preacher

Now Mr. Jones wants to know who is Mr. Wilson? Haha. Nice tracks & insight again DrJ ! ... The Midnight Creeper album by the way made me fall in love with Jazz before I knew it was Jazz. So I'm glad you affiliated SP with LD :-)

Got to love those old songs, made fresh. I remembered you were a big fan of Mr. Donaldson, and thank you for doing that 'slug' for G&M! We appreciate your ears & your support. Have a great week. Best, DrJ
