WHYR Jazz: Gifts & Messages 2/21/2015 Show 155

Chart positions

This show was 1st in the global community radio chart, 6th in the global radioshow chart and 15th in the global jazz chart.

Time for our regular look 'under the hood' of the doctor's mp3 player to listen to his 'walkin' around' music from the past few months, music that brightens his day and hopefully yours.

Yeh. Lynn REALLY slows it down and stretches the time. Thanks for listening. Cheers, DrJ

Thanks, Rob. I am delighted with your progress (noted by the increased listenership, as well). Great to hear you on a REAL radio station, and glad to be of assistance. That's one of the main reasons we will continue to post on Mixcloud, i.e. to show how GOOD music and decent radio skills can produce a good show without gimmicks. Best from BR, DJ

The Lemon Circus

You know your MP3 collection is a delight nay a treasure so it becomes easier here to mention those that were difficult Samurai Hee-Haw and So High I felt disconnected from perhaps a bit too abrasive for my fragile soul :) Another superb collection Dr J

Thanks for listening, as always. I would have thought that 'Hee-Haw' would have made 'sense' in light of the 'Haggis' cut; both have a bit of a country music vibe. Lawson on up-tempo numbers is really 'in your face' with a different (less polite) sound than many other singers. A tragedy she had to stop singing early in her career due to vocal chord problems.

AN fantastic contribution to the airwaves ; from the genesis of jazz to it's modern prominence;] As you always state ..." we have the artist to thank for such marvelous works " but the messenger must also reap credit for it's diffusion or propagation ;

Thanks for listening. And we'll take whatever accolades offered. But without the music itself, I'd have to tell you only about seed biology (what I pay the rent with), which would not be as interesting. Yes, it's true, I don't do radio for a living (thank goodness!).

Nice that you changed the opening, as much as I enjoy the Kirk tune, it was time for a change. The Kenny Barron was eye opening as I did not remember liking that particular album all that much, but I thoroughly enjoyed The Wizard this time around. I notice that mixcloud rarely registers my listens even when I'm logged in, I'm guessing it is due to a program I use called 'Hide My Ass'-- it appears to work better than I thought. Nice show! (I must say tho, it is hard to find Iko Iko in that Lynn Arriale track.

The Groove Point/ Halle Cat

I agree with Kingcake about the opening, great to hear the tunes starting straight away...

Iko gets really slowed to a crawl, and I fancy the arrangement because it is so different from the original New Awlins' classic. We do a bit of post-show surgery to (sometimes) delete the actual RK intro, which is played every week on-air. With the Mixcloud 'preview' feature being what it is, we wanted to get listeners into the meat of the program ASAP.

I took this little trip as a new journey to the east of sun and I enjoyed it!

I see what you did there:)! That's one of the small treats we leave for listeners like you, a little game with song titles & lyrics (if there are any). Thanks for checking out the show this week. Best, DrJ
