Chart positions

This show was 2nd in the global community radio chart, 5th in the global radioshow chart and 15th in the global jazz chart.

First, my thanks, as our 4000th follower joined us in the fold this past week. Our year-end goal is 4500, with 450 listeners/show. So, tell your friends. Again, my grateful thanks for your support.

This show, we celebrate the 50th anniversaries of: Wahoo (Duke Pearson), Street Of Dreams (Grant Green), Inner Urge (Joe Henderson), and Into Somethin' (Larry Young) with tunes from the albums and several compare/contrasts. We also present 'After Hours' by Avery Parrish with the composer at the keyboard, along with tracks from Irene Reid, Donald Byrd, Sam Most (duet with Tal Farlow), JJ Johnson and Jessica Williams. Enjoy the show!

The Soul Preacher

Dr. Jazz! Firstly thanks for more gifts and messages. I have two questions about Grant Green and thought you might be the right person to answer them. No worries if not. I can't say how much I am a great fan of GG and I do have 29 albums of his on Blue Note. I know he is guesting on so many more but for now I just focus on the albums under his name. So lately I've been going through a french discography -- which is the best one I've ever seen so far -- and wondered if you have heard about the albums below. Would you say that "Gooden’s Corner" and "Nigeria" are completely included to the double album "The complete Sonny Clark sessions"? Maybe apart from the song "First Stand" (I have that album). If yes, it would mean I don't have to find "Corner & Nigeria"

Recording dates | Album
1961-12-23 | Gooden’s Corner
1962-01-13 | Nigeria

And do you have this album? I'd be highly interested.
1978-04-17-20 | The Last Session | Atlantis | ATS 9

Also outside Blue Note. This one is absolutely worth to check out:
1978-04-17-20 | Easy | Versatile Records MSG 6002
Easy is a cover of a Lionel Richie/Commodores tune "Easy … like Sunday Morning"
Here's Grant’s great rendition:

Enjoy!

The Soul Preacher

Oh, just realized that the two albums from 1978 are actually one. The "Last Session" is a remake of "Easy". Easy to understand. No artist would call his album "The Last Session". I just bought "Easy" on ebay, so I think I now stock his albums completely. Just wanted to let you know before you spend too much time in finding answers. Sorry for the Grant Green blast :-)

So, all of Nigeria & Gooden's Corner are on the American release of 'Complete with Sonny Clark'. Details below...

The Soul Preacher

Thank you so much for this detailed report. It really provided some important clearance. So I'd guess I just miss that "Woody N’ You" song. The unissued "Lament" maybe was the foundation for "Father’s Lament" from his 1972 album "The Final Comedown". Maybe not. There are 10 years between the two recordings. Once again many thanks for the time you've put into this.

The Lemon Circus

Congrats on the 4K followers Dr J - you've enough jazz to entertain 4 million followers :) Some great vocal tracks - lazy dreamy melodic music - fast Fly little bird fly (both versions) plenty of organs, xylophones and guitars - a fine visit one stop shop for intelligent classy tunes :)

Some funky Bluenote. What’s not to like!

The consistency of BN material is truly awesome. I was going through the Prestige discog recently, and would be severely challenged to go month-by-month, year by year for their catalog. It doesn't come close to matching BNs. As always, thanks for listening. Cheers, DrJ
