Whew. Thanks to many of you who listened all the way through last week, when we had some challenging music. This week, we’re mostly back to our regular fare. We start with one of our old Nightsounds intro themes from years gone by & a compare/contrast featuring Monk, Carmen McRae & Johnny Griffin/Lockjaw Davis. After some hip Elvin Jones, segment 2 features Lee Morgan’s first notes in a recording studio for a session under his own name (Indeed, BN; how rare is the LP? Recent auction price was >2K USD; too bad I only have a CD), featuring Horace Silver on piano. We’ve got New Awlins’ old & new in hour 2, a bit of Philly’s Denise King (this week’s ‘sexy’ song), & a meditation on Strange Fruit, in honor of the Billie Holiday centennial with Trane, Lady Day, Jose James, Cassandra Wilson & Ornette. Enjoy the show, tell your friends, & of course, hit the heart……..

Thanks, Natalie. Great that you've signed up and listening in. Lots in the archive to sample. Best from BR, DrJ

The Lemon Circus

One of the best opening tunes to your show - loved it :D Louis Armstrong, when considering age, still fresh and some fun archived from the vaults material too. I Only Have Eyes For You was delightful :)

That WAS the opening tune for many years on the night time show; a reason for that, yes? I think that Jabbo tune after Louis would be perfect for TLC, as well as Eyes. Listening to your show at present...Cheers, DrJ

The Soul Preacher

Damn, Dizzy plays a unique horn on Unicorn. :-)

Indeed. The mute is perfect for the tune & solo. If I imagine an unmuted trumpet in my head with the same notes, it doesn't sound half as good. Cheers, DrJ

Nixon Ruiz

wow dr. jazz , jazz is like the air for living and it is an anti stress, jazz is a better way for relaxing soul, mind and body... you have got a good taste to select each track for your mixes.

The rare jazz segment- was the highlight of the show for me - I loved the suppliant nature of these tunes : The Basin street label is a young one ; but have under their portfolio some very seriously talented musician ; I am very fond of the group" LOs Hombres Calientes" with Irvin Mayfield and Bill Summers that calls this label home - THanks for waking me up with such wonderful music

I figured some of that trumpet work would catch your ear. How about that Jabbo Smith? I've got to pull out more of his sides. Thanks for listening and have a good week. Best, DrJ
