Chart positions

This upload was 9th in the #jazz chart.

It’s our holiday program this week. Just enough talk to let you know what’s playing, but mostly a jazz soundtrack for your last minute preparations. Our very best wishes to you for a joyous time with your family, friends, or just snuggling up with your favorite feline or canine. And many thanks for the cards/messages/emails. It feels good to know that G&M is an important part of your life. Enjoy the show & Merry Christmas one and all…..

Program note: You’ll notice that the show is shorter than usual. Mixcloud’s system AUTOMATICALLY detected (apparently from running time alone) that A Love Supreme has 4 movements, which they considered as 4 individual tracks (the performance was prepared as 4 movements of a single piece). Therefore, in order for the bulk of the show to be accessible in the US, I have regretfully deleted the 3rd movement. Merry Christmas……….

Top listeners of the week (thank U): Tokyo (Japan), Athens (Greece), Belgrade (Serbia) & Norfolk (Virginia, USA)

A Captain who went to lunch

What a treat. I have been saving this one to hear it on the night before our Orthodox Christmas.
Happy holidays!

And to you as well. Glad we could brighten your holiday. Best for 2018, DrJ

The Soul Preacher

Ella's rendition of THE CHRISTMAS SONG was especially fine. Wonderful CHRISTMAS show! Happy holidays!

Thanks SP. Sometimes just doing a tune 'straight', w/o trying to do something new with it, is the right choice - e.g. Ella. All the best to you & the family for a prosperous & healthy 2018. I can't wait to check out your new 'teen disco' mix tomorrow! Cheers, DrJ

Fortunately i have a copy of A Love Supreme just in case i need to hear the third movement. Great show, even a couple daze after Christmas, keeps ya in the mood. Happy Holidays Dr. Jazz, thanks for the shows!

Well, every day is Christmas in a sense (you wake up instead of the alternative!). Love Supreme is easily available on the major streaming services, so I'm not overly crying about it here. There are also fascinating alternate takes available recently for the first time. I thought about doing a C&C with one of the movements instead of the usual. BUT, I didn't want this particular show to be 'scholarly' as I'm often tempted to do. Just something in the holiday spirit. Maybe I'll do the scholarly bit when it's 'Christmas in July':)....Thanks for listening & Happy New Year. Cheers, DrJ

The Lemon Circus

red vinyl chipmunk LP??? :) shirly horn got the annual spin - and deservingly so, a great closing number from Mr Mcferrin (who I only know from don't worry be happy fame) loved the instrumental hymns att he opening and also Ella's version of the christmas song and my fave I think was Joe Williams - Let It Snow. Jazz definately the music to accompany the season, reflective and warm. Your garden is looking tidy and spacious and what appears to be self -sufficient vegetables growing too - hope the weather behaves itself. Happy New year to you and yours and all your discerning listeners on G&M :)

Yup, red Chipmunk LP, in my hands at this very moment. Must be worth something-original pressing. But you won't hear it here (well, maybe if we hit April 1st as a show date:0!) Mr. McFerrin was/is quite the 'jazzbo' in addition to his other work. Worth seeing in concert if you have the chance. No veggies in the garden, that's all perennial ground cover (a photo sent to TLC privately, which might end up as a cover shot here once phase 2 is complete in March. Good thing too - temps may be well below freezing later this week.) Best New Year's greetings to you, Paul & the family. Stay off the roads & out of jail. Cheers, DrJ

Nicely done! Always enjoy listening to the tunes from Vince Guaraldi "A Charlie Brown Christmas" LP.

Indeed. Vince's Christmas tunes are just as timeless as the 'crooner' classics. Thanks for listening & Merry Christmas. Cheers, DrJ

WHYR Down The Road

Beautiful show on a day when Karla and I didn't feel like going outside due to the cold.

DrJazz

Indeed. It really felt colder than the temp indicated. I had to hustle out early to snag a microcard for the phone and it was brisk! Glad you enjoyed the show and hope you heard it live, since we had to edit here. Merry Christmas to you both! Best, DrJ
