Playing tracks by
Xenofon Kavvadias and Met Police Radio Advert.
Concealed sound installation, Gift 10 Vyner St, London 2011.
Compiled from the official 2008 UK Anti-Terrorist radio advertising campaigns and Police radio silence, this is a subtle and hidden audio piece that delivers to the visitor in a quiet, secretive, almost clandestine way, subverting the advert's initial message into something that seems fearful and questionable. With their content being surprisingly inappropriate, condescending and misguided, these adverts were subsequently banned by the Advertising Standards Authority following public complaint, ruling under "Section 2, Rule 9 of the (Broadcast) Radio Advertising Standards Code (Good taste, decency and offence to public feeling)" that they "cannot be used in their current form".
