I wanted to create a retrospective mix that was more complex than a typical "History of" that usually contain the same played out hits, so I decided to pick one recording with a female rapper from each year since 1978 and mix them in order without repeat artists. These tracks are not necessarily the most popular tracks of these artists or of that year.
42 Tracks and four decades of production and rap evolution in 58 minutes.
** This took me a lot longer to put together than I thought but the research turned out to be even more fun than mixing them together. There's a story behind each song or artist. For example, "10% Dis" by MC Lyte was a jab at Antoinette who answered with her track "Lights Out" the following year. Because of the stories behind all these ladies, I'm uploading a video of this mix with blurbs and footage related to each artist in the coming week or so.
