The last couple of weeks seems to have brought a tsunami of new music, so I'm not complaining. We've got great new music from Sir Robert Orange Peel, The Molochs, Michael Plater and many more.
Last year I came across the new dance sub-genre Gqom out of Durban in South Africa. It was interesting but didn't engage me as much as Kwaito, or so I thought. Having discovered new tunes by the likes of DJ Lag and Cazin I'm smitten and hope you will too. FACT Magazine has a great feature (http://www.factmag.com/2016/01/05/gqom-feature/) on the genre. One band that has piqued my curiosity this past month are the Trance Farmers (https://www.facebook.com/TranceFarmers). OK they are on super hip label Stones Throw but let's not hold that against them. The songs I've been listening to remind me very much of early raw lo-fi Beck and I'd really recommend searching out more of their music.
