Having broken away from the digital Djing that characterised his early years, here Jack of Dubs demonstrates his newly honed turntable and CDJ skills, delivering an hour of highly-refined house and dubstep textures for the latest DJSoc transmission. As a pioneer of dubstep within the society, Rob Jack’s selections have since followed the evolution of the sound, now regularly drawing for house, techno and garage wherever he plays – a style which has allowed him to share the bill with the likes of Ben UFO and Sigha. With a nod to the Hessle Audio camp, here DJSoc 011 begins with the slower tempos, with Kowton’s ‘Drunk on Sunday’ sharing space with Levon Vincent’s ghostly ‘Late Night Jam’. As the tempo is upped, 4/4 hits soon give way to the more syncopated structures of dubstep heavyweights Pangaea and Loefah, to devastating dancefloor effect. Don’t sleep!
