In the Summer of 1996, my friend Sig and I took a trip to NYC to explore the Mecca of Hip-Hop. We found exactly what we had hoped for. From graffiti on subways cars to awesome record shops like Fat Beats. And when we turned on the radio it was more than we ever could've imagined. The tape deck was always on record. In one night we heard interviews with A Tribe Called Quest & Wu-Tang Clan, plus more underground Hip-Hop than my pockets could afford. So, when I heard the news that Phife Dawg passed away, I pulled out my massive box of old cassettes and found this gem. It's labeled FUNKFLEX on HOT 97, I can't believe I didn't write A Tribe Called Quest & Wu-Tang interview on it.
This clip is only the A.T.C.Q. part of the interview. Tribe was promoting the Beats, Rhymes and Life album. Lots of freestyles and laughs. Great moment in time! #RIPPhife #BeatsRhymesandPhife #AlwaysOnPoint
