I'm not gonna go on about the jazz influences on Hip Hop. Surely a lot of people could say that these beats are funks with lots of horns. Others yet will consider a far wider range of 90's Hip Hop the production of which was based on jazz loops to be also "jazzy". I just went with my personal feeling of what can be distinguished from that era from the rest of the production, rather than ponder too much on what "jazz hop" might be.
The cover is Harlem Renaissance painter Aaron Douglas' painting 'The Prodigal Son'.
