The 2012 edition of the South Ken Kids Festival saw two giants brought together for a Drawing Duo: Joann Sfar and Quentin Blake. Though they come from different backgrounds, the two illustrators found they shared very similar views about drawing and books in general.
Sir Quentin Blake is most famously known for his partnership with Road Dahl and for illustrating books such as 'Matilda', 'James and the Giant Peach' and 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. Joann Sfar is a French illustrator who is considered one of the most important artists of the new wave of Franco-Belgian comics. From 2009 to 2010, Sfar wrote and directed Gainsbourg: Vie Héroïque, a biopic of the illustrious French songwriter and singer.
Joann Sfar and Quentin Blake discuss story-telling through imaginative drawing.
