The influences and experiences of Fred Vargas prior to writing her novel. Fred Vargas is the pseudonym of the French historian, archaeologist and writer Frédérique Audoin-Rouzeau. Her crime fiction novels have won three International Dagger Awards from the Crime Writers Association, for three successive novels in 2006, 2008 and 2009.
Her 1995 novel, 'Debout les morts' (The Three Evangelists) "is a strange mix of the sinister, the bizarre and the surreal". The story opens on the mysterious appearance of a tree in a Paris garden overnight and the subsequent discovery of the dead body of its proprietor burnt to ashes in a car. An ex-cop and three historians set out on a quest to find out the truth behind these events.
