Patrick "Dutchy" Holland was believed by many to have pulled the trigger on the gun that killed journalist Veronica Guerin. He was never charged with her murder. He was convicted, in 1998, of possession of 10kg of hashish and sentenced to 20 years in prison, reduced to 12 years on appeal. When he was released in 2006 he was "Invited to appear on the Late Late Show, under public and political pressure the editorial board of RTÉ vetoed the interview". I conducted this interview for NEAR-fm being joined in the studio by Patrick and his nephew who was a tireless champion of his uncle's innocence.
This interview is a unique record of a man who had only been released from serving an 8 year prison sentence, two days earlier, speaking candidly. In the interview he is obliged to confront his violent past, he opens up about his forgery business, he discusses controversial attorney Giovanni Di Stefano and he denies murdering Veronica Guerin. Hear his voice and decide if he is being truthful?
