Gray Days and Gold — September 2021

Hello, friends. This month, Gray Days and Gold is where the mellow wallows. Autumnal music is the house specialty and so September can only mean one thing: a lovingly-curated hour of songs that are the sonic equivalent of the scent of burning leaves on the breeze, or a sun-faded photograph—soft-edged, wistful, probably with no small amount of tape hiss, and guaranteed this month to exceed our ‘M4’ pledge of maximum melody and moderate melancholy.

This episode features music from Trevor Sloan, Sir Orfeo, Marta Del Grandi, Genevieve Dawson, Arthur Verocai, Hamish Hawk, Alex Pester, Nina Savary, The Cleaners from Venus, Evan Wright, Shannon Lay, A Girl Called Eddy, D. Rothon, and Afternoon Bike Ride.

If you like what you hear, please support the artists. You’ll find buy links to the tracks on this episode’s page of my site.

As always, thanks for listening.

As you penned some words about autumn, how about this for my favourite quote about autumn? It's by writer Horatio Clare: 'Is there anything quite like swinging out into a varied day, under changing skies, through the biscuit scents and mulch-squelch of the underfoot, into the views opening up all around you, into more colours than we have names for?'

Mark F. Griffin

That's lovely, Ashley. 'Mulch-squelch' alone easily brings to mind the paired rhythm of two feet on a trek. Thanks for sharing.
