Episode 266 / Double Play

Episode 266 / Double Play

Playing tracks by

Dave Clark Five, Journey, Who, Jo Jo Gunne, Rolling Stones and more.

Chart positions

This show was 19th in the global classic rock chart.

This week’s program is called “Double Play”, not because we’re presenting two songs by the same artist as Tracy Lee of Malta suggested, but rather two completely unrelated tunes that share the same title! We’re talking “Any Way You Want It” by both the Dave Clark Five and Journey or “Surrender” by both Cheap Trick and Elvis or “Rock Steady” by both Bad Company and Aretha Franklin — and let’s not forget “Turn Me Loose” by both Fabian and Loverboy! Get the idea? There are so many songs that share the same title, that we will be presenting Part Two next week!

Love this idea! I have often been amazed at how some titles have been over-used for completely different songs... "Heartbreaker" comes to mind, and "Tonight", even "Stairway to Heaven" (3 I can think of off the top of my head).

The Captain Maniac Show

Exactly -- I know that there's both a Led Zeppelin AND a Neil Sedaka version of Hairway to Steven! Thanks for tuning in, Brian!

Excellent show idea with the double play theme!

The Captain Maniac Show

Thank you, VT! I know "Double Play" is supposed to mean two songs by the same artist, one after the other -- but I altered the notion somewhat to instead mean two songs that have similar titles!

The Captain Maniac Show

Thanks, Johnny! I actually got the idea by listening to one of Tracey Lee's shows (she of United DJs of Malta) -- but whereas she meant two songs in a row by the same artist, my concept of "Double Play" was a program featuring two different songs sharing the same title! Turns out there are so many songs like this that a Part Two is next week's show!

Johnny Switchblade

That's gonna rock! You can do some really interesting pairings this way...

A great show -- and a great IDEA for a show. I look forward to the next installment. And thanks for playing The Smithereens , cos if you don't: who will? I am still off the air... lol. Or else I'd play them. I'm looking at a triumphal return in July...
