Although the majority of film scores that get released are from American films, they're still films set in all sort of exotic locations around the globe. Which often gives composers the chance to add some local flavour to the score and bring in instruments that immediately tell us which part of the world we're watching on screen. This first journey of MovieMusic Travels goes from the guitars of Spain to the percussion and duduks of the Middle East, the accordions of Paris.... and on to South America, China, Ethiopia, USA and finally back to the UK.
There's lots left, and in future shows we'll explore Africa and Asia in more detail, as well as heading all the way to Australia and even Antarctica.
This is all gorgeous music, and some of the pieces, such as the Morricone, Desplat and Santaolalla, are amongst my personal favourites.
