Inspired by the lost plays of radical humanist Frantz Fanon, the ‘Finding Fanon’ project examines how society, race and racism affect our interpersonal relationships in an age of social media, virtuality and globalisation. The series reflects on the collaboration of Sartre and Fanon and their recognition of the problems and pain caused by the economically and politically powerful on the less privileged and the colonised.
This film is a meditative, naturalist, cinematic portrayal of the fragility of friendships, loss and alienation. Larry Achiampong and David Blandy collaborate in the work, with the presence of their children - indicating the future of this “unfinished conversation”. They use the tropes of science fiction, a dystopian setting, costumes and the narrative of a search for safety as a reference to Afro-futurism and the existential cinema of Tartovsky and Marker.
