Rock Off : Stockhausen's Influence On Krautrock

Playing tracks by

Faust, Can, Neu!, Amon Duul II, Cluster and more.

In the early 1970’s, a movement known as Krautrock emerged in Germany, with groups distancing themselves from the rock music of the USA/UK. Stockhausen’s influence on this new generation of German musicians was huge, with Holger Czukay and Irmin Schmidt of Can even being pupils of his. The use of electronics, sound collage and musique concrete became the defining mark of this new music. Though underground at the time, their ideas would eventually flow into the mainstream.
