New South Story Lab is a Louisiana non-profit that exists to foster southern storytelling through the arts. Virginia Archer came up with the program in response to a need she saw to offer free educational opportunities for young artists in the areas of writing, art and filmmaking. Her background in anthropology guided her in designing the program and inspiration came from the nationally recognized work of Dave Eggers. Virginia is joined in the interview by board member Daniel Pena who teaches at LSU's English Department. Daniel writes for a number of publications, such as The Guardian and is a respected reporter on Mexico to his U.S. audience. The program explores the writing careers of Pena and Archer, in addition to presenting the sense and sensibility of New South Story Lab.
