Art of Independence

What happened in 1779 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana? Did you say there was a battle fought that had a significant outcome for the American Revolution? Go to the head of the class! For indeed, the Spanish Governor of Louisiana, Bernardo de Galvez, along with his aide de camp, Oliver Pollock, seized Fort New Richmond from the British, freeing the Mississippi River from interference from England and providing a transport route for all sorts of materiel to aid the American cause. Few in Baton Rouge can tell you the significance of the magnificent sculpture of Pollock, or the fabulous bronze relief featuring the battle that stand in Galvez Plaza downtown. But Bennet Rhodes, documentary film maker extraordinaire, and Professor Charles Elliott, world-renowned scholar, present this story with with and wisdom, bringing to life an exciting story that locates Baton Rouge on the map for places to celebrate Independence Day!
