What are current challenges faced by the millennial generation
in the arts sector today? How shall we tackle these through practical solutions?
Pablo Paillole in conversation with Wingshan Smith, Youth Programmer at
Nottingham Contemporary: we cover how we might apply art and creativity to tackle the
ongoing issues faced by the UK’s young artists and cultural professionals. We wonder what
our future might look like with increasingly precarious labour and lack of funding across the
arts, culture and education. We advocate for the need to decolonise the curriculum and
complete our pending lessons, from Windrush and the Civil Rights to Black Lives Matter.
Ultimately, we examine the prospects of young creatives in a post-Brexit Britain, following
the UK government’s pledge to remove EU students’ home status from 2021 as part of its
new immigration policy.
