Contemporary musician Emma Welton 'walks with' Composers Makoto Nomura and Mari Satomura

Composer and musician Emma Welton has developed a project called Sound Walks. They are a map/score for people to follow around a part of their local neighbourhood in Exeter. Sound Walks are for people who might like a different kind of walk: a listening walk, with
pauses. They are best done alone, or in the company of a quiet friend. Emma invited Japanese composers Nomura and Mari to compose some Sound Walks in their home city of Kyoto and to give them to other people to do.
This podcast is a conversation about their experiences of COVID-19 in the UK and Japan, how it is affecting them and their work, how it is affecting sound, the sound walks, and about sharing sound walks with other people.
The podcast contains recordings of sound walks, people walking and reading out text from the maps, both in English and in Japanese.

Resilience project was commissioned by Art Work Exeter and paid for by Art Council England with money from players of the National Lottery - thank you!
