John Kelley (Moontribe) - Live at Together LA on January 5th of 96 at The Bay Street Loft in DTLA

Playing tracks by

X Press 2, Rhythm Warfare, Rennie Pilgrem and The Electroliners.

Chart positions

This show was 14th in the global acid house chart.

John Kelley was one of the coolest Dj’s that I ever met. He rose to fame at the infamous Moontribe gatherings in the deserts of California and quickly became a crowd favorite. I was NEVER up for traveling deep in the deserts in the middle of the night and having the outdoor sun pound on me in the morning, so I never made it to a Moontribe. Im sure they were a lot of fun and there were some great sets by the moon tribe DJ's. One of the Founders of Together had been to a few Moontribes and wanted him to play for our first Together party. We had Donald Glaude, Steve Loria, John Kelley, Steven Ankele and Eric Davenport play this night. This was our first John Kelly recording and he became a regular Dj in our lineup. His style can be described as funky, progressive desert breaks with acid flavors interlaced throughout his sets. Enjoy this funky desert set played indoors at The Bay St. loft in Downtown LA..

Anyone have the name of the track that comes in at the 10min mark? I remember hearing it on a few different mix tapes I had back in the day.

No I'm good, it'll just find something else to rip from other peoples sites or even blatantly rip images off from pages. I'll let it keep doing whatever it is they are doing..

Now I know why I never saw you at a Moontribe. My last one was at Mojave and we walked about 3 miles to get there due to the road being blocked by cars that couldn't get up a step hill. By the time we got there the sun was rising and party was just getting started. As cool as it was I was like yeah never again I like the warehouse vibe a lot better. Thanks for posting this and he totally threw down a great set for you the together fam. This party was the first and showed what together was about and what was to come!

Thanks Daniel! Makes me miss the old days but its all good though now we can listen to all these classic recordings and hear them in the comfort of our own home. And trust me, I wanted to go but I always heard about the crazy treks all these moontribes had and I was not even going to try and make it out.

That Indoctrinate by Castle Trancelott was such a top song back in the days. In many an Essential mix. Killer mix!
