New data shows the weathiest 10% of New Zealanders hold around half of the country’s whole wealth.
The Statistics NZ report also showed the bottom 40% of the country held a measly 3% of the wealth.
Prime Minister John Key said the figures had remained consistent for decades and were similar to when Labour was in government.
Key said the main reason for the disparity was the huge increase in house prices.
But Green party co-leader Metiria Turei says it's a sign of a broken economy.
