Sneaking Thru The Gap
A trio of English '70s tunes breaking the 10 minute barrier were today's entree. The first from blue-eyed soul man Robert Palmer's debut solo LP - where his uncredited studio band were The Meters - and the closing, slowly intensifying epic called 'Through It All There's You'. We followed that with The Harry Roche Constellation's fantastic take on futuristic-composer Pete Moore's 'Spiral' - which will indeed spin you out with its twists & turns. From there we slid into the Soft Machine who were in freaky-jazz mode. Later, a fresh update on lucked-out bluesy vocalist Don Covay & a selection of soul, funk & boogie which ended with a verging-on-comedy tune from the only LP by Chocolateclay (check 'Uncle Funky's lyrics!). The LP was a collaboration between bassist George 'Chocolate' Perry & producer/keyboardist 'Clay' Cropper - who worked on other projects together (like Little Beaver) but retired this alias quickly. xx Paris
