Jumping The Gap Show 2 May 2012
Kicking off on Africa's funky Ivory Coast, today's trojan horse quickly opened up to reveal a mix of Trenchtown reggae & dub, 2nd-wave English 2-Tone ska, Aussie pogo-ska via Canberra & Cardigantown, and even some psychedelically-dubbed-out British bobbies from London Town who now sound like there really is a 'ghost in their machine'. That meant we could also serve up something new from Kiwi skankers The Black Seeds' latest LP 'Dust & Dirt'. But today's extra special treat came in the second half of the show, which featured a rare-as-honest-coppers private-press LP from 1975 by a multi-instrumentalist flautist, who liked to record in the nude: Owen Marshall. "Lick that stick indeed!" Fetching close to a grand on eBay the LP 'Captain Puff In The Naked Truth' has been lovingly re-issued for Jazzman's Holy Grail series & cosmically mixes star-gazer jazz, soul, funk, moody knob-twiddling & astral-narrations. Happy listening... Paris, Sydneytown
