Jumping The Gap Show 2nd November 2011
The Promised Land Edition. After a slow-groove baptism of "Deadly Sins", today's show had snakey beginnings in the garden of good & evil and ended with a revelationary Drop Out Orchestra rework-of-a-rework - which will be "mick's/mixed blessings" for some. (Weller & Talbot's "stylish" remake of Joe Smooth's spiritual-soul-house classic "Promised Land" has recently undergone a full immersion disco-gospel conversion! Athiests we may be, but this gets even our hands in the air!) Inbetwixt we hurtled off to the dark side of space-disco's outer reaches with cosmic French libary muzak. With Ethiopia's Mulatu Astatke due back in Sydney soon, we heard him getting interplanetary with cosmonauts The Heliocentrics and then dipped into some Afrobeat funk including recent stuff from the Guynamukat label and some dusty EWF-ish Afro-boogie via Chicago's Pamoja. There was also new stuff from Chris Joss and Meem. Hope you enjoy.... Paris
