Jumping The Gap Show 24 April 2013
Starting out in Togo, with the Hot Casa label's new re-issue of Itadi Bonney's Afro-funk LP 'Watch Your Life' (recorded at a West African radio station in the mid-70s), the rhythms were lively for most of today's show, whether Latin, Afrobeat or disco. From one-time Miles Davis drummer & accomplished keyboardist Jack DeJohnette's questioning Compost group, through to Washington's Phil Flowers (the man dubbed The Black Elvis & you'll understand why as he unleashes his girl-troubled 'I've Got To Move') other treats today included some more of those newly released John Morales productions from the M+M Mixes Vol. 3 on BBE. Today we had fun with some of Morales' bonus instrumentals including Teddy Pendergrass & a classic Arthur Russell 'joint'. Fun was also had dropping an a cappella section from Daft Punk's new tune over some Afrobeat re-edit action out of Israel, before ending with Tramp's retrospective on Jimmy Preacher Ellis.
Happy listening - Paris
