Drop Out Orchestra's smile-inducing rework of Sex Pistols' Pretty Vacant got to us this week, so we pulled out other DOO tunes & made the Swedes a feature. It also made us pull out more 'rotten' material, including Some Product snippets & that other Pistols disco revision by Black Arabs (circa the greatest-ever swindle) which preempts the Drop Outs' idea by 3 decades! BTW we weren't taking the piss(tols). If any LP changed my life, it was Never Mind The Bollocks. First heard it on tape at the back of a Canberra classroom as a teenager. It was 1979, & though it took 2 years for the anti-christs' Never Mind to reach a Catholic school in the burbs of the Oz capital, the FX were strong & long lasting. By year's end I'd got a bass & started a band, but more importantly started thinking of escape! There was a future, but not there. Also today, new John Milk & Woody Allan collab, Frank Mitchell soul & more Ivory Coast Afro-soul in a trip from disco 2 dub.
