"Just one more job could put us back on Easy Street"
Been ages since we got this thematic on air, but a recent Soul Jazz compile featuring Boz Scaggs had us dragging out an old copy of his underrated 'Down Two, Then Left' LP, which features the brilliant 'Gimme The Goods' track. What a vice tune! The lyrics are a riot (as the Bonnie-n' Clydesque "Stella & Blackie" take care of bizniz) but the solid, horn funk of Boz here, is enuff to make anyone turn to crime. Bizarrely, I couldn't lay my hands on my copy of the Starsky & Hutch theme before the show, but in this opening 30 minute mix excerpt you do get the amazing 'Baretta's Theme' by Rhythm Heritage, plus everything from oldies by Lalo Schifrin & Dieter Reith, to more recent fuzz-funk by Sleeve on the Freestyle label. We also hotwired local contraband from '70s Aussie TV show; 'Cop Shop' - which starred a young Lynda Stoner & Paula Duncan - our own Angie Dickinsons?
