'The Soul Stylists' by Paolo Hewitt (& Paul Weller) was first published in 2000. Drawing on a collection of anecdotes and personal testimony, this book charts the course of the Modernist movement from the middle of the last century. It celebrates the clothes, lifestyle, culture, attitude, and in particular some of the music around which Modernism is centred.
Get more info about the author here; http://paolohewitt.blogspot.com/ The story continues with the sound of soul from the early to mid 60's. Here is a mix of music from that era based on the selections of Ian R. Hebditch, a Lecturer, and Ady Croasdell of Kent Records and the 6T's soul club; both Modernists. Support the artists.
