Jazz Meet resident Rob Coley delivers #64 in our series with just over an hour's worth of deep and funky spiritual jazz. We start with a little Detroit jazz from Sphere and Larry Nozero on Strata (and a little nod in the direction of Jarred) before edging into funkier territory with the next in Jazzman's Holy Grail series, the newly reissued (and previously rare as hen's teeth!) Owen Marshall. Tenor saxman Arnett Cobb drops a bomb with the seriously soulful 'Blues Of The New World' as we hit the first in a Family Groove double header with the percussive Locke Saints Band. A little funky West Coast Latin jazz from Saracho follows before the SUJ Ensemble bring us a version of Freddie Hubbard's 'Straight Life' and Trunk serve up a killer dose of Polish soundtrack business from jazz pianist Krzysztof Komeda. We round off the set with a Cinematic Orchestra cover courtesy of Matthew Halsall, and an equally cinematic version of John Coltrane's 'Favourite Things' from Cecilia Stalin.
