Way back in the early days of The Banana Sessions, Calum & Bob came to me and asked me if I wanted to come & play a wee gig at the Jazz Bar with them. Having heard their tunes (only vaguely named The Banana Sessions at the time) I of course said yes. They are both unique and accomplished songwriters, so I was pretty happy from the outset to keep my hands off the words, and stick to the music.
My background is mainly classical and jazz, I guess - I was studying classical flute when I met them and I've always dabbled in jazz, on flute and saxophone, so that's where the style that I try and bring to our songs comes from.
This mixtape is made of some of my favourite moments where these genres start to cross over, as well as some times when they fuse with other genres... So, amongst others we have: electro-baroque (Wolfgang Gartner), glitch-ballet (Venetian Snares), funk-classical (Salsoul Orchestra), piano-punk (Huw Warren), jazz-oompah (Polar Bear) & a bit more in between.
