We've always felt that there's been something a little Deliverance about the music of the Dirty Three, their askew rhythms, Warren Ellis' lunatic screaming into th'ether, aggressive tumult guitar, and general men-who've-dragged-victims-through-a-head-backwards vibe. Their music, evocative, mournful, romantic, is like those dastardly bastards of the badlands sat around a few bottles of raw Bourbon, meditating over what they've just done as the dark night presses in around them. Their new mix for the Quietus is similarly evocative listen, reflective but with a quiet, unforced intensity.
