April 13th 2011 would have been the 100th birthday of Don Leslie, the inventor of the infamous rotating Leslie speaker. Don's invention turned the humble electronic church organ into the grunting, screaming beast we know and love today. Without Don, there would be no Jack McDuff, no Jimmy Smith, no Jimmy McGriff, and certainly no hammond funk as we know it today.
Specially for the 100th birthday of Leslie we recorded a mixtape overloaded with Hammond organ and fiercely rotating Leslie speakers. You'll hear souljazz, soul, funk and even some hiphop and latin that have grunting and grinding organs in the lead or that are being an essential sidekick. Also, april 15 hammond funk band Euro Cinema will play a special "Tribute to Don Leslie" set at SJU Utrecht, with us spinning Leslie-heavy tracks Uploaded 2 years ago - Featuring tracks by The Delegates, James Hunter, Matti Oiling Happy Jazz Band, Wayne Carter, # Herbie Hancock and more Report this Cloudcast | ![]() Listeners also enjoyedEnjoying Mixcloud?Join with Facebook Do you like us? |
