This mix is inspired by my recent sessions at one of Sydney's finest weekend destinations 'House of Wax' at the Essen Restaurant. H.O.W. is run by Sir Robbo and Willo, who, along with monthly guests spin tasty selections of soul, jazz, Jamaican and other cool rockin' sounds, strictly vinyl only. I've chosen, this time, to stick to bongo crazy, Caribbean and Latin laced workouts. Starting with the great Dave Bartholomew, whose band leading skills on Fats Domino and Smiley Lewis sides are legendary. Joe Lutcher's 'Ojai' is a killer track I discovered at a H.O.W. session when it hit the decks during soundmeister Brent Clough's set. I couldn't get there fast enough to check it. The rest of the mix is a collection of 7" treasures gathered over the decades. Lashings of cool doo-wop, bongo workouts, more New Orleans calypso tinged tunes and early '60s groovy weirdness. So, get on yer goatee, sneakers and twistin' slacks and dig the sounds down to the ground. Here's to The House of Wax
