"To commemorate our recent performance at London’s premier (only?) juke joint, The Boogaloo, I’ve decided to assemble a list of guaranteed way-down grooves for you all. The kind I’d have on the juke box if we had our own joint. Imagine that! To get you in the mood, the lovelies pictured above are hovering above their doubtless simmering juke box in Mississippi. The picture comes from the outstanding book, ‘Juke Joint’ by photographer Birney Imes, which you should seek out at all costs. I came across his work at The Boogaloo some years ago when I first started hanging out there - his work adorned the walls while I and my friends filled the space in between with sweaty southern music.
