You may have notice by the increasing number of people walking around wearing face paint, witches hats, and vampire fangs that Halloween is, once again, upon us. To celebrate the night when the veil between our world and the next is at its thinnest, we asked the Chicago-based electronic outfit White Car to put together a suitably-spooky mix of nightmarish sounds.
They certainly took the ‘nightmarish’ part of the brief seriously, as they explain:
‘In midst of current events, I found myself drawn to making a compilation of sounds that reflected the horrors of the real world. The world feels general fucked right now, and what better time of year to reflect on it and laugh at it than Halloween.
For oki-ni I have concocted a mixture of tracks, which range in their representations of fear and horror. Some of the these tracks sound truly scary to me, and others deal with content of the grimmest nature: western dominance, planes to hell, and the world of power. Happy Halloween!
