Judging by the majority of this year's SXSW coverage - according to Twitter and the blog/web community - this year's event consisted of gigs by no more than about nine bands: The Middle East, The xx, Warpaint, Freelance Whales, Bear in Heaven, The Smith Westerns, jj, Washed Out and Tanlines, all of whom are really good, but they've also all been around a little while. There was little point in playing 'em again (check out the archive to hear them: http://newnoise.tumblr.com). What you will hear are first plays for Fang Island, Otuoto, Emanuel & The Fear, Girls Names, Retro Stefson and Grass Widow, absolutely brand new Erol Alkan/Boys Noize, Arctic Monkeys, Laura Marling, Holy Fuck, Alessi's Ark, Male Bonding, David Holmes and (more) James Murphy, plus legendary old Galaxie 500 and The Best Guitar Solo Of The Past Decade by Dave Tattersall of the Wave Pictures. And that's just the first half. Come back for Part 2, if only for Sleigh Bells' monstrous 'Crown on the Ground'.
