Culture Shots celebrates international women’s day through interviews with women who’ve taken positive steps towards real solutions to issues of gender inequality.
First up Mariaam Bhatti interviews Ifrah Ahmed about campaigning against FGM in Ireland. Hailuu Netsiyanwa and Mariaam Bhatti speak to people on Moore Street about what international women’s day means and the women who inspire them. Later on, Eoin Drinan interviews Mairead Cullen about her radio documentary, “New Beginnings,” which explores alternative right of passage rituals to replace Female Genital Mutilation in Londiani Kenya. Also featuring music by Antony and the Johnsons and Edit Piaf. This series is a part of the Intercultural Dialogue through Community Media project, which is co-financed by the European Commission under the European Integration Fund and is supported by the Office for the Promotion of Migrant Integration in the Department of Justice and Equality and Pobal.
