Here's a delivery full of jazz heroes (of mine).
From the relatively unknown (out of France) Laurent De Wilde, a man full of groove and fun sounds, with a fantastic new album; next to Marcus Miller, the bass sound, the funk, the mind; hop to Louis Sclavis, probably the best (or one of the ten best) jazzmen in Europe, back with a new twist to his trio sound (off drums this time). And we move to the return of Mike Stern, the prodigy and the warm comeback of a very methenyesque turn to his fusion palette. Then come the truly amazing Dirty Dozen Band: classic troopers of the brass funky New Orleans street sound. And on the way out, maybe not a hero yet, but keep a fresh ear and open for Señor Rodriguez, the latest discovery by Quincy Jones.
