It's in the family... teenage years spent marauding around big bro's Soul Control soundsystem and grooving to the 'jawdropping' basslines of 90's street soul at The Gallery, and the house music revolution at the Haçienda lured me onto the decks for the first time. My first 12" purchases - Sylvia Striplin's 'You Can't Turn Me Away' and Eric B and Rakim's 'Paid in Full', then jungle arrived and the vinyl started stacking up. First set was as warm up at one of the early 'Electric Chair' nights at the Music Box in Manchester, but to be honest, I always preferred being on the other side of the decks at the party! The house music scene in Manchester degenerated into Hard House hell so I got into the garage scene, went to work abroad, came back and the scene was already dead. Then after getting introduced to the deep soulful sounds of Naked Music I fell back in love with house music... big beats, deep dubs - soulful house music.
