Summertime At 25 Cents!

SoulSistas And SoulBruthas! It seems strange when I'm out digging for records and see a mass of 45's sitting in a bin or box labeled with, "45's for 25 cents." The strange thing is that I tend to automatically think it's a load of trash. Even stranger is that I usually end up finding a few treasures every time I get busy looking through the bin that I've only a few moments earlier scrunched up my face in disgust at. With funds running pretty low these days, it was nice to score 25 records for less than $10. I'd love for you to hear what I found at my secret digging spot, this old country thrift store that's just a mess, but always ends up treating me right. It puzzles me like mad trying to figure out how in the world a Dyke And The Blazers record ended up there. Music travels everywhere!

Minus a few that ended up being unplayable, here's the rest in their poppy, scratchy warm goodness.

25 cents each you say, that's cheaper than gold, but what you've found is a golden hoard! thoroughly enjoyed this.

What a great way of getting together a playlist of toons of a wide variety. If you get together a load of tracks yourself from your own collection I always find you start going of in a certain direction. This keeps the whole thing feeling fresh whilst the journey is uncertain. A road trip with no map if you like. Cool !

these days we can buy compilation CD's w all 24 trax on it 5 euro maybe and nobody who hears if they are 45 or CD,..or even downloaded,..
i mix with all media as long as it spins and makes sound,..mostly original cd's,..collected over the years (not selling my mixes withat info)
(in meantime i dl more then i ever had bought in store,..
i totally understand peoples love 4 example 45's or stamps,..D

reality is it doesn't add anything to the muzik/mix itself,am i right?

i have hundreds of 45's,...we call it ; singletjes (dutch) and i paid around 5 - 7 gulden each single,..(3/4 dollar)
no,.i don't wanna sell them (same as w those few dutch coin guldens i wanna keep a few,also history value)

Most of my LP collection is built up of £1 - £2 finds...and the 45's 50p - £1. It seems a lot more fun than paying top dollar! great selection.

OK I had to find out... and by the power of google... Lee Perry did sample this tune but not this version. Jungle Lion was sampled from the Al Green original. :-)

Fantastic finds Dave! That Ernest Jackson one is particularly interesting. As well as the obvious Al Green vibe it also has Lee 'Scratch' Perry's 'Jungle Lion' running thru it. Did Perry sample off of this track I wonder? He was one of the pioneers of sampling a good 20+ yrs ahead of the hip-hop brigade.

I can totally relate to what you wrote, it's the same here in Germany...
Fleamarket 7" Crates full of "German Schlager Music" but if you take the time to digg you'll always find some Nuggets!
