SoulSistas And SoulBruthas! Saturday, April 16, 2011 is Record Store Day around the world. There's no better excuse than that to get out to your local shop if you're lucky enough to have one in your hood. I put together a celebration mix loaded with ALL VINYL recordings that were pretty much all purchased right here in my hometown. I love each and every one. It's an example of some of the gems that you can run across in a record store. It seems, at least here in the USA, that there's a resurgence of independent shops with most turning into a destination to pick up new and used vinyl. Trust me, that's a good thing, and these small businesses need our support. So, head out on Saturday and get your fingers a little dusty, take a few tissues in case you get some of that dust up your nose and just when you think you can't dig through another bin, be strong, keep digging cause you never know what you might find. I wish I could have bought some new records last Saturday... times are tight as hell, but I'll make up for lost time real soon. I know I'm gonna enjoy this batch of wax though. I did find that Lena Horne LP in the field back in March. I love her cover of Rocky Raccoon to pieces, and Gabor Szabo just kills it with those guitar chops :)
