SoulSistas And SoulBruthas! I've been seeing action on Questlove's (drummer for The Roots) twitter feed saying that he's been working with D'Angelo on a new album. THAT got me crazy excited as it's been 11 years since D graced us with arguably the best record of the 2000's called, "Voodoo." It really made him an international star. D and I are from the same city and I got the chance to see his hometown gig in 2000 and it was one of the most amazing SOUL experiences of my life. He had an absolutely smokin' band called, The Soultronics. Talk of a live album around the time never materialised. Luckily, a few of his European gigs were broadcast on the radio and we have a document of just how special this artist was at the moment when he took, or brought back, SOUL & FUNK to the ultimate level.

I can only hope that D'Angelo retakes his throne and his new material meets the expectations of a decade plus WAY TOO LONG wait. Until then..."Clap your hands and STOMP YOUR FEET!"

To compare this band with some of James Brown's great line-ups is not an overstatement. Some of The Soultronics changes are just phenomenal. Not to mention they had one of the stone cold baddest bass players on the planet, Pino Palladino, anchoring the groove. It's a real SOUL/FUNK extravaganza from start to muthafuckin' finish!
