Punk Rock - spirit of 1976

Ronnie Golden aka Tony De Meur was in the post punk band The Fabulous Poodles. They did lots of TV, had hits, and supported The Ramones and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers on tours in The USA. They outsold the Clash both in terms of tickets sales and albums (at the time). Ronnie later played with The Comic Strip comedians in London's Soho in the early 1980's and appeared on The Young Ones series on BBCTV as an upsidedown Buddy Holly. He went on to work with Arthur Smith, Barry Cryer and Rich Hall. Catch him in London in June and July (with Barry Cryer in Ruislip) and at The Edinburgh Festival in August. This film looks at the vibrant music that flourished at The Four Aces: from American Soul to Jamaican Ska and Blue Beat, Reggae, Lovers Rock, Sound System, Dub Reggae, Punk Rock, Hip Hop, Acid House and Drum 'n' Bass. This radio programme provides an insight into a lost world that was for 40 years a thriving hub of live 'roots music'. Whitter's film is well worth catching.

Growing up in the 1950s BILLY RATH was imbued with pure rock’n’roll spirit. In the 1960s he honed his bass guitar chops playing in local bands, whilst dabbling in modelling and the life of a gigolo. By the mid-70s Billy was at the epicentre of the New York underground ‘street’ rock’n’roll scene playing alongside ex-New York Doll Johnny Thunders as a member of THE HEARTBREAKERS, whom MALCOLM McLAREN invited to join the Sex Pistols’ notorious ANARCHY IN THE U.K. tour in December 1976. In conversation with Henry Scott-Irvine, BILLY RATH talks about his life and musical legacy, recounting his times with Johnny Thunders, Walter Lure, Blondie, the Sex Pistols, Motorhead, Ronnie Spector, Lenny Kaye, Nico, Left Hand Frank & one of his current favourite bands, the garage urchins King Salami.

Just keeping up with Wildwood who inspired me to reply with his mix as he gave us this ........

I fully agree with him that many are badly produced but to me that whats good about them, many of these ive had from new so as you imagine they have had a war in their lifetime, with my jumping about to them all my life.

So sit back and enjoy the grime, the cracks and the anger from another time, its not big and its not clever but it is what it is, brilliantly in your face!
