Internationalists! Here's an all acoustic selection from Paul Weller's solo years. There's a nice mix of covers and original tunes. They are compiled from various radio performances spanning the globe, album tracks, lovely b-sides and demos. Paul touches on all kinds of styles and genres and special care was made compiling this collection to prove just that.

I've argued that Weller's creative peak was with The Style Council. It was a period characterised by an explosion in the influences in his music. Mick Talbot was clearly a huge factor in this evolution. He's rarely celebrated. He should be.

My goal here was to take The Style Council as a starting point, and to showcase some of the more eclectic offerings which Paul, Mick and Steve White have turned their hand to from there forward. So, in here you've got some gems from Talkin' Loud, some tracks which have benefited from Weller's vocals, and some collaborations between Talbot and White.

And, before anyone complains at my spelling of Manteka - this is how the Steve White fronted track by the Jazz Renegades is labelled.

10 yrs ago today, we (at Splinters) were working on the final details for our own version of the 2001 Acoustic Tour album, called "Slow Time Mondays" after Jim Pinkington's suggestion. All the tracks played on that tour not included on the official album, and out 1 month before "Days of Speed"! A successful project involving many members like Karl (archive supremo) Dodger (drawings) Martin (database distribution) me (artwork and tracks consultant) and others. The result was more interesting and "true" than the official live album, even if "just" audience recordings. The (free) distribution started just after the 9/11 tragedy, and I remember myself trying to do the back sleeve artwork at home that sleepless night, watching the news in horror and despair. In the end, almost unconsciously, I made what could be seen as a simple tribute to the twin towers (can't see it here, cos its the back pic). For the 1st time ever shared outside Splinters now, to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Enjoy!

SoulSistas And SoulBruthas! I'm a huge fan of UK music legend Paul Weller going back to my first introduction to his music via The Style Council. A good friend brought up an idea of doing a best of the last decade list and it was something I couldn't resist. One of the great things about Weller is he's a lover of vinyl and always releases his music on lovely 45's and Lp's. So, I dug out the collection and did an all vinyl mix of some of my favourite tunes from his four albums of the 2000's. As you might imagine I lean on tracks that have a SOUL vibe as I think he's one of the classic British R&B singers. There are a few sort of Funky Rock cuts and some acoustic Soul in there as well. This is definitely an artist that tackles all sorts of genres and it all ends up being The Sound And Soul Of Paul Weller. If you don't know his music, have a listen. And if you're already a fan, "Stand Proud As An Internationalist!"

Internationalists! Here's a great radio broadcast of one of the final appearances by TSC. They would do three dates in Japan in the summer of '89 before that much maligned appearance at the Royal Albert Hall in July. Here in the US, we really had no idea that the end of TSC was near and were awaiting the next LP with much anticipation. Unfortunately, there would be a very silent three year gap for us between Confessions and the release of Weller's solo debut. There's no doubt I would have really liked the Modernism LP had it been released. Looking back now, it's most assuredly quite dated. But, TSC always seemed to progress into new territory with each record, it wouldn't have really been as surprising to me as it obviously was to those, as legend would have it, ripping up their programs at the Albert Hall. So, I hope you enjoy this VERY RARE look at what you might have seen had that last record been released and TSC made a tour stop in your part of the world.
