Whosampled 3rd Birthday Party hosted by Mixcloud
Whosampled 3rd Birthday Party hosted by Mixcloud
To celebrate WhoSampled’s 3rd Birthday, we’re throwing them a party at our monthly residency over at the Big Chill House, King’s Cross, London.
They're starting it with a very special event: a live interview with original members of the legendary Mohawks, the band that brought us "The Champ", one of the most sampled records in history.
The interview will form a part of a WhoSampled and Mixcloud meetup where members of both communities and supporters of the sites can get together and talk about DJing, music, sampling and crate digging as well as meet the Mohawks and ask them some questions with us.
For the party, we’ve got a killer lineup of beat maestros including Mark Rae (Rae & Christian / Grand Central), Chris Read (BBE / Radio 1Xtra / Substance), Huskiii (Fftang! Fftang!) as well as WhoSampled’s own DJs, all doing unique sets that celebrate music’s present as well as its past.
Furthermore, BBE Records will be taking over the 2nd room upstairs to launch their 15th birthday celebrations.
Come down to this celebration of great music and make some noise with us!

DJ. huskiii
From Buenos Aires bedrooms to Cape Town raves, traditional dance rhythms from around the world are being taken and fused them with modern production to create hybrid party music. Boundaries are melting and genres breed as internet culture allows worlds to collide. Huskiii's aim is to take the much maligned phrase world music and bring it into the nightclub, injecting it with b-boy beats and bastard bass. He created FFTANG! FFTANG! a monthly club night in London set up to champion the genre mutations. Brazilian dubstep crossed with Himalayan mambo? Swedish hip hop over Congolese speed disco? Old meets nueva. Sound-clash meets culture-clash.

Label DJs. BBE Music
In 1996 'Barely Breaking Even' founders Peter Adarkwah and Ben Jolly, having promoted and DJ'd clubs collectively under the name for two years, decided to kick-start a record label. Their first release, the compilation 'Stop And Listen Volume One', was the start of something special. A decade on and Barely Breaking Even Records have surpassed all expectations. Not only do the compilations go from strength to strength but an outstanding collection of original production is also under their belt. Artists, producers, DJs that have contributed their vast knowledge and technical skill have included: Masters At Work, J Dilla, Keb Darge, Roy Ayers, Osunlade, Questlove, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Spinna, Dimitri from Paris, Joey Negro, Gilles Peterson, David Rodigan, Ty, Bugz in the Attic, DJ Vadim, Will.i.am, Spoek Mathambo... and many, many more.

DJ. Richy Pitch
I've been DJ'ing as resident DJ @ Scratch for the last 14 years.
At Scratch we've had everyone from Eminem to Macy Gray to Public Enemy to BEP's to Roots Manuva performing there.
It was through Scratch that I got to work with the Sevenheads Label in NYC on my 'Live at Home' EP with J-Live, Asheru, El Da Sensei, Apani B and Mr Complex.
Since then I've been making quite a bit of Library Music (you might of heard my stuff on anything from Oprah Winfrey to Mona the Vampire!). I've also been remixing for labels like Universal & teaching other people how to make beats.
Last year I was asked by Cengage learning based in LA (USA) to write a book on beat making which I'm writing at the moment.
I've also recently came back from living in Ghana for 2 years and I've recorded a very nice LP of 15 -20 songs with loads of talented people from Accra and is out now on BBE records.
