The many different flavors of Kuduro come from both its roots as well as later influence: mainly evolving from Batida rhythms (a fusion of African, Caribbean, and Latin American traditions) since the 1980s, and incorporating elements and ideas from North American hiphop and techno, from Cape Verdean Funaná, Coupé-Décalé from the Ivory Coast, Afro-Brazilian percussion, etc.
